Student Life

Life at ESBR Doesn’t Stop When the Bell Rings.

At most schools, student life is the stuff squeezed in around the edges — a club here, a free period there. At ESBR, it’s the other way around. The activities, passions, and connections students build outside the classroom are just as intentional — and just as transformative.

We believe that who you become matters as much as what you learn.

What We Offer

Chess Club — The Dark Knights

Eternal Seekers of the Board’s Riddle

Chess isn’t just a game. It’s patience, pattern recognition, and the humbling experience of being out-thought by someone sitting three feet away from you.

Our Chess Club welcomes players of every skill level — from total beginners to serious competitors. Members track their progress on our live leader-board, challenge each other in ranked matches, and learn what it means to think three moves ahead in a world that rarely lets you think one move ahead.

No experience required. A willingness to lose gracefully? Helpful.

🂮 Card Games Club — “King Of Spades”

Shuffle Up. Deal In. Think in probabilities!

From strategy to probability to the pure, chaotic joy of a well-timed play — card games build minds in ways that look a lot like fun. Our “King Of Spades” card games club is where students gather to compete, connect, and discover that the probability of learning set-theory while having a blast is — statistically speaking — far higher than expected..

Whether you’re a seasoned player or just learning the basics, there’s always room at the table.

Is there math in card games?
Here’s one for you:  The Hypergeometric Distribution — this one is literally *the* card draw formula.  Used in poker, Magic: The Gathering, everywhere:
It answers:  “What’s the probability of drawing exactly k cards of the type you want, from a deck of N?”

🐉 Dungeons & Dragons Club

Build Worlds. Tell Stories. Become Someone Else for a While.

D&D is collaborative storytelling at its finest — part creative writing, part improvisational theater, part strategy, lots of team-work, and entirely unlike anything else you’ve ever done.

Students take on the roles of heroes while navigating adventures that challenge their creativity, teamwork, and imagination. The Dungeon Master doesn’t just run the game — they build entire worlds from nothing.

Sound familiar? It should. It’s the same skill set behind every great entrepreneur, filmmaker, and game designer who ever lived.

Dice not included. Imagination mandatory.

🎸 Guitar & Drum Lessons

Make Some Noise. Make Something Real.

Music is one of the oldest languages humans have. Learning to play it — really play it — changes the way you hear the world.

ESBR offers free one-on-one guitar and drum lessons as part of our after-school programming. Students develop real technique, learn songs they actually want to play, and discover that discipline and creativity aren’t opposites — they’re partners.

No prior experience needed. Just a willingness to show up and make mistakes loudly.

Why?

Student life at ESBR isn’t an afterthought. It’s where identity is built, friendships are forged, and students discover what they’re actually made of.

The skills you develop outside the classroom — strategic thinking, creative collaboration, perseverance, the ability to laugh at yourself when you lose — are exactly the skills that will define your future. We take them just as seriously as any exam.

This is student life, ESBR style. Come find your people.

All after-school programs are free to enrolled ESBR students.
